Setting up a Pinterest business account gives you access to analytics, ad tools, and better brand visibility. This guide walks you through how to create a new business account or convert a personal one, claim your website, and customize your profile.
Step 1: Choose How You Want to Set Up Your Business Account
You can either:

Convert your personal account to a business account
π Option A: Create a New Business Account
Use this if you want a standalone business account not connected to any other Pinterest accounts.
How to Create:
- Go to Pinterest Sign Up
- Click Create a business account
- Enter your email, password, and age
- Click Create account
- Fill out your business profile and click Next
- Add business details and click Next
- Select whether you want to run ads, then click Next
- Choose how youβd like to get started, or click the X to exit
π Important Tips:
- Use an email not already connected to a Pinterest account
- If you’re creating the account for a company/client, use your name and work email, not the companyβs name
- Creating an account means you agree to Pinterestβs Business Terms of Service
π Option B: Convert a Personal Account to a Business Account
This lets you keep your existing Pins and followers.
How to Convert:
- Log into your personal Pinterest account
- Click the down arrow (top-right corner) and select Settings
- Click Account Management on the left
- Click Convert to a business account
- Click Convert account
- Complete your business profile, then click Next
- Describe your business and click Next
- Choose if you want to run ads, then click Next
- Choose a starting point or click the X to skip

- Business accounts are public
- You can switch back to a personal account anytime
- You must unlink connected accounts before converting
- Pinterest no longer allows linking between personal and business accounts
Step 2: Claim Your Website
Claiming your website helps people discover your content and gives you access to analytics.

π Before You Start:
- You must own and control the domain
- You need access to the source code
- You cannot claim sites like Etsy, Amazon, or eBay
- Each website can only be claimed by one Pinterest account
π§ How to Claim Your Website
You can claim using one of the 3 methods below.
β Option 1: Add an HTML Tag
- Log into your Pinterest business account
- Click the down arrow > Settings
- Go to Claimed accounts on the left
- Click Claim next to Websites
- Copy the HTML tag under “Add HTML tag” and click Continue
- Log in to your website host
- Paste the tag into the <head> section of your siteβs HTML
- Go back to Pinterest and enter your website URL
- Click Verify
π‘ Once verified, you can remove the tag.
β Option 2: Upload an HTML File
- Follow steps 1β4 above
- Click Download under “Upload HTML file” and click Continue
- Log into your website host
- Upload the file to the root folder (not a subfolder!)
- Go back to Pinterest, enter your website URL
- Click Verify
π‘ You can delete the file after verification.
β Option 3: Add a DNS TXT Record
- Follow steps 1β4 above
- Copy the TXT record under “Add TXT record” and click Continue
- Log into your domain host
- Paste the TXT into your DNS settings
- If required, add @ in the Host field
- Wait up to 72 hours for changes to apply
- Return to Pinterest and click Verify
π‘ You can remove the TXT record after your site is verified.
π To See Claimed Sites:
- Go to Settings > Claimed accounts
- Look under the Websites section
β To Remove a Claimed Website:
- Log into your Pinterest business account
- Go to Settings > Claimed accounts
- Click Unclaim next to the website
- Confirm by clicking Unclaim
π Once removed, Pins from that website wonβt be connected to your account anymore.
Step 3: Personalize Your Business Profile
πΌ Add a Profile Cover
- Log into your Pinterest business account
- Click your profile picture > Business Profile
- Click the edit icon on your cover photo
- Click Change cover or Remove cover
- Choose an image and crop it to 16:9 ratio
- Click Save
π Recommended Size: 800×450 pixels
π Add or Update Community Information
This helps Pinterest feature your business in relevant areas.
To Add:
- Log into your business account
- Go to Settings > Account Management
- Click Personal Information
- Scroll to Community information
- Click the dropdown and select all that apply
- Click Save
π‘ You wonβt be able to view your selections after saving.
To Update:
- Follow the same steps as above
- Your new selections will replace previous ones
To Delete:
- Go to Community Information section
- Click Delete data
- Click Delete to confirm
π If deleted, Pinterest will not feature your business across the platform.
