What is a D-U-N-S® Number?
A D-U-N-S® Number is a unique 9-digit identifier for your business issued by Dun & Bradstreet. It’s often required for government contracts, funding applications, business credit, and verification on platforms like Apple, Amazon, and federal databases.
Who Needs One?
All businesses applying for:
- Federal or state contracts/grants
- Listing in Apple Business Manager or App Store
- Certain vendor platforms or business credit systems
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 2: Select Your Business Type
Choose the category that best describes your business:
- Enterprise
- Small Business
- Public Sector
Click on the “D-U-N-S Number” dropdown
- Click “Get D-U-N-S Online”
- Click “Get Started Now”
Step 3: Identify Your Business
Choose:
- “I have a U.S.-based business”.
- Click “Get Started”.

- Business ZIP Code
- Business Name

Step 4: Can’t Find Your Business?
- Click “I don’t see my business” to proceed with creating a new listing.
Step 5: Choose a Package
- Select your desired package (free or expedited).

Step 6: Create an Account
Enter:
- Email Address
- First Name & Last Name
- Click Next

Step 7: Email Confirmation
- Check your inbox and confirm your email address.
Step 8: Sign in or Create Your Account
- Create a secure password and sign in.

Step 9: Complete Your Business Info
Fill in all required fields:
- Legal Business Name
- Year Business Started
- Street Address, City, State, ZIP, Country
- Number of Employees
- Business Structure (LLC, Sole Prop, etc.)
- Principal’s Name and Title
- Business Phone Number & Email
- Business Description (you’ll be prompted for a SIC code)

Step 10: Upload Required Documents
Upload TWO of the following:
- Utility bill (with business name)
- Articles of Incorporation
- Business License
- IRS documents or Tax Return
Step 11: Submit Your Application
- Click Submit Application.
- You’ll receive a confirmation email and can monitor the status through your account.
